Servicemembers Civil Relief Act
Please note that the SCRA form shown in the video has since been revised to reflect a 2019 statutory change.
Since May 2015, two cases have been handed down that emphasize the importance of knowing the ins and outs of the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) and applying it correctly. There isn’t a one size fits all answer. The SCRA is complicated.
This course will explain what the SCRA is and how it came about. It will highlight many of the useful resources available to help practitioners navigate civil cases in accordance with the SCRA. And finally, panelists will discuss common scenarios encountered in North Carolina’s courts on a daily basis along with solutions and suggestions for complying with the Act. Panelists (including a district court judge, clerk of superior court, private attorney, military judge, counsel from the Judicial Standards Commission, and assistant legal counsel from NCAOC) will discuss how to apply SCRA principles to common scenarios in civil cases.
