Volunteer as an Attorney

GAL pro bono attorneys are vital appellate advocates for children.

Attorneys

Pro bono attorneys are a vital part of the North Carolina Guardian ad Litem (GAL) Program. Just as N.C. GAL advocates for thousands of abused and neglected children in trial courts across the state, pro bono attorneys continue that advocacy in our state’s appellate courts. Pro bono attorneys can work on an appeal from anywhere in the state on behalf of N.C. GAL to ensure that a child’s best interests continue to be heard on appeal and to help children find safe, permanent homes.

These volunteer attorneys must have an active North Carolina law license and carry malpractice insurance that will cover their pro bono work. Prior experience with appellate practice or child welfare law is helpful, but not required.
