Wayne County Jury Service
Length of Service
Prospective jurors are summoned for a one-week session and if selected to serve on a jury, will serve for that week. Jurors can serve on more than one jury trial. For example, if a person is selected on a jury trial on their first day of service and the trial is completed early in the morning that person will be eligible for selection to another jury trial. Jurors not selected, or not in the process of selection, will be excused at the end of the day.
Hours of Service
The typical juror's day will be from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasionally, other hours are required by the court during trial, but this is rare. If selected to serve as a juror, follow the instructions of the presiding judge.
When and Where to Report
Jurors are asked to call the jury clerk's office at (919) 722-6140 after 5:00 p.m. on Friday the weekend prior to the service date. A recorded message will indicate which jurors are to report and at what time. Jurors should report as directed by the recorded message. When they report, jurors will be checked in and given an orientation conducted by the jury clerk. This will be followed by a short video presentation designed to educate jurors on the trial process and their role as a juror. If selected for a jury, jurors will follow the instructions of the presiding judge.
