Chief Justice Beasley to Swear-in New Chief District Court Judge

Chief Justice Cheri Beasley will swear-in Judge Robert K. Martelle as Chief District Court Judge for Judicial District 29A. The ceremony will be held today at 1:30 p.m. at the Rutherford County Courthouse. Judge Martelle’s appointment was effective November 9 following the retirement of Chief District Court Judge Randy Pool. District 29A covers Rutherford and McDowell counties.

Chief Justice Beasley will administer the oath of office to Chief District Court Judge Martelle in a ceremony being held today. The event is open to the public and the media is invited to attend.

Judge Robert K. Martelle was appointed chief district court judge of Judicial District 29A on November 8, 2019, which became effective November 9. Before that he served as a district court judge in 29A which presides over McDowell and Rutherford counties. Judge Martelle was appointed to the court by Governor Pat McCrory on February 27, 2013, and was re-elected in 2014.
