The Supreme Court of North Carolina will hold its May session of court at the Historic Chowan County Courthouse in Edenton on May 9. The Chowan County Courthouse is the oldest courthouse in North Carolina, celebrating its 250th anniversary.

WHAT
The Supreme Court of North Carolina will hear two cases:

• Wray v. the City of Greensboro, involving former Police Chief David Wray seeking to recover employee benefits.
• State v. Mario Andrette McNeill, seeking to overturn his convictions in the death of a five-year-old child.

The Supreme Court of North Carolina is the state's highest court and there is no further appeal from its decisions on matters of state law. It comprises the Chief Justice, who also serves as the head of the Judicial Branch, and six associate justices, each serving eight-year terms.

WHO
Chief Justice Mark Martin will preside over oral argument, joined by the six associate justices of the court. The legal community of Edenton will also gather for this session.

WHEN
Two sessions will take place on Tuesday, May 9, at 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. Due to limited seating, admission to these sessions of court is by ticket only. Tickets are free of charge and available to the public on a first-come, first-served basis. Please call Historic Edenton for tickets at 252-482-2637.

Oral arguments of the cases on Tuesday will be streamed live via WRAL.com of Raleigh. WRAL will provide the pool camera for media.
