The North Carolina Business Court recently launched a new electronic filing system. The new, web-based filing system went live on Monday, June 19, and provides much improved functionality and features for attorneys, filers, and judicial staff.

"Under Judge Ben Tennille's leadership, the North Carolina Business Court was an early pioneer in implementing eFiling for state courts," said Chief Business Court Judge James Gale. "Our initial system has served us well, but we are now excited as we move to a more modern system that will help us achieve even more efficiencies in today's litigation environment."

Registered attorneys and filers using the new system are able to file documents electronically and securely at any time. Users also may access court documents, case histories, status notifications, and other case information through the new system. The interface delivers a modern and user-friendly experience, features new search capabilities, and provides public access to case information online.

Additionally, the new system provides a browser-based case management system with workflow queues and judicial tools to manage cases, parties, and events through the complete life cycle of a case. It streamlines judicial processes and the dissemination of filings, orders, and opinions.

All pending cases have been transferred to the new system, as well as archived cases from the past three years. Additional historical cases and new functionality will be released in upcoming phases. Account access and information are available on the court's website, www.ncbusinesscourt.net. Additional support staff from the N.C. Administrative Office of the Courts have been on-site for assistance during the launch at the four Business Court locations.

The new eFiling system is developed by Tybera, a national electronic filing vendor for courts and government, which also provides eFiling services for civil superior and domestic violence cases in North Carolina. An early leader in electronic filing, the N.C. Business Court has provided eFiling since the court was established in 1996. This new system is the latest addition to the online services offered as part of eCourts, the larger initiative to modernize the North Carolina court system.
